Readmission
Re-Enrollment after Leave of Absence
A student who is on a leave of absence and wishes to return as an active Guilford student must notify the College of their request by email to studentaffairs@guilford.edu at least three weeks prior to the start of the term or session that they wish to re-enroll. They are not required to submit an application for readmission.
If the student returning from a leave of absence is otherwise in good standing with the College, the student will be reactivated and may re-enroll. Find further information in the section of the College Catalog on Academic Regulations.
If the student is not otherwise in good standing with the College (e.g. unresolved student conduct case), the student may be asked to resolve these matters prior to reactivation. The request to re-enroll would be denied or revoked if such matters were to subsequently result in academic suspension, academic dismissal, disciplinary suspension, or disciplinary dismissal.
A student returning from a period of separation from the College may or may not be eligible for financial aid; the returning student must meet with a financial aid counselor to determine eligibility for the various financial aid programs. Students typically can appeal one time to have financial aid reinstated. You can learn more about the appeal process at Guilford's Satisfactory Academic Progress webpage.
Readmission
Any student withdrawn from Guilford College who subsequently wishes to return is required to be readmitted through the Office of Admission. The procedures for readmission vary depending on the circumstances of their separation from Guilford. For any of these circumstances, at least three weeks prior to the term or session that they wish to re-enroll, the applicant should submit an application for readmission which is linked through Guiilford’s Readmission webpage, and follow the respective additional instructions as outlined below. Find further information in the section of the College Catalog on Academic Regulations.
Prior outstanding balances must be paid before an application for readmission will be processed or considered.
If readmitted, a student must be in good standing with the College academically, judicially, and financially in order to re-enroll and register for classes. In other words, even if a student is readmitted according to the processes defined here, but additionally has any pending academic honor code charge(s), unresolved student conduct case(s), or an Accounts Receivable hold, they must resolve these matters with the respective offices of the academic dean, student conduct, or student accounts prior to rejoining the campus community or registering for classes. Readmission would be denied if such matters were to subsequently result in academic suspension, academic dismissal, disciplinary suspension, or disciplinary dismissal.
Readmission is not guaranteed and may be conditional. The decision will be communicated to the applicant by the Office of Admission.
Students readmitted to Guilford return in the same academic standing as they earned in their most recently enrolled semester attending Guilford.
